Horton

A technique created by Mr. Ailey’s mentor Lester Horton in the 1930's and 1940's. A modern dance pioneer, Horton’s goal was to create a dance technique that was anatomically corrective and utilized the widest possible range of motion, with an emphasis on large, full movements done to musical phrases of varying lengths and dynamics.

Advanced Urban Ballet

Combinations are created for the professional dancer and pre-professional students preparing for a stage career. Obediah Wright offers a thorough class in classical technique combined with urban rhytmic movement.

Liturgical Dance

Christian expression of prayer or worship through body movement. Dancers will respond with an appropriate dance which flows out of the music which enhances the prayer or worship experience.

Contemporary/Jazz

Contemporary dance is a genre of concert dance that employs systems and methods found in modern dance and postmodern dance. Contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques as well as newer philosophies of movement that depart from classical dance techniques by altogether omitting structured form and movement.

Paul Taylor

This class is able to offer creative combinations, which challenge the dancer’s musicality as well as develop the student’s artistic interpretation. It is a modern based technique infused with Classical Ballet . This technique will be taught by Mr. Ted Thomas a previous company member of The Paul Taylor Dance Company.

Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet is the most formal of the ballet styles, it adheres to traditional ballet technique. West African

African dance utilizes the concepts of polyrhythm and total body articulation. Shoulders, chest, pelvis, arms, legs etc., may move with different rhythms in the music. They may also add rhythmic components independent of those in the music. Very complex movements are then possible even though the body does not move through space.
